What is Etching?
Etching is a common occurrence for stone surfaces, and can typically appear as a blemish, dull spot, mild stain, or a water spot that won't go away. With etches, wetting the area temporarily improves its look, but the area returns its dull appearance after drying. Wetting the surface and observing for changes in appearance can be a quick method of differentiating between stains, mineral deposits, and etch marks.
